Since its inception as Gefen Systems in 1995, Gefen has enhanced the computer connectivity and professional audio/video markets by developing computer peripheral extension solutions knows as the ex-tend-it Professional Series. By extending KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) accessories away from the CPU, professionals could work in complete silence, ideal for editing audio/video content. Though originally designed for application in post-production studios where computer noise interfered with production, the extenders were useful in many other industries including presentations, digital signage, broadcast and others. The Gefen ex-tend-it Professional Series grew to encompass switchers, which access multiple sources from a single workstation, splitters, converters and cables as the product line evolved.

Hagai Gefen first emerged as an innovator in post-production studio automation design when he created some of the original audio synchronizing equipment while working for editing equipment manufacturer, Adams Smith. He further honed his experience by engineering the designs and overseeing construction of several post-production facilities throughout Hollywood.
His expertise soon transitioned into the marketing of a networked sound effects search system for the entertainment industry. That system, SFX Search, quickly became a success with industry leaders such as NBC, CBS, CNN, Warner Brothers and Universal studios. Gefen was also the first to introduce an advanced automated background music management system to hotels, restaurants, cable system providers and radio stations.
When Gefen diversified and focused on engineering products again geared to the audio/video production industry, the ex-tend-it Professional Series was created and evolved as new advances were brought to market.
